Architecture: Hedonistic sustainability

I've been only twice to Copenhagen, but I really liked it there. That's of course because the Danish people are very nice, but also because I really like how the city feels.
There's a great TEDtalk on architecture by some Danish with focus on sustainability: Link to TED page.

I strongly suggest to not watch the video in the embedded video frame size!

Nuclear Energy: Thorium Reactors

I recently discovered a small gap in my education in nuclear energy. It concerns LFTR reactors. They seem to be reconsidered after uranium based reactors were favored after world war 2 and the during the cold war due to their dual use in energy production as well as the generation of byproducs for nuclear weapons.

There are several videos on the google tech talk channlel, just two of those:

Machine Learning (lecture) Videos

I haven't watched them all yet, but since I have only little background in machine learning, I find this to be highly enjoyable: Link to Machine Learning Videos. The videos were taking during a summer school: Link to the Summer School Website

Enthusiasm for Science

I just wanted to point out to a project called 'the symphony of science', available at

http://symphonyofscience.com/videos.html

It consists of a series of music videos, aiming to

"bring scientific knowledge and philosophy to the public, in a novel way, through the medium of music. Science and music are two passions of mine that I aim to combine in a way that is intended to bring a meaningful message to listeners, while simultaneously providing an enjoyable musical experience."
I embed only one of those here:

I really like what the project is aiming for. In my opinion, there is a severe lack of easy accessible material for the general public regarding all fields of science. Publishing in journals and proceedings is good, but doesn't help the non-scientific population at all. Unfortunatelly, writing popular science books isnt' valued in the scientific community at all.

Two short videos

I didn't post anything the last months and collected a few things. Those two vidoes are nice, but especially the second one is old.

Drugs

Without any comment: Milton Friedman on drugs. I'm thinking about writing down a short essay with more links on the subject of drugs, legalization and abuse.
